The first procedure to deal with the first stage of gum disease is scaling and root planing (also known as SRP), which stabilizes the health of the mouth by deep cleaning beneath the gumline, then smoothing the tooth enamel to limit future deposits. After one or several scaling and root planing procedures at DentalWorks - Macedonia in Macedonia, OH by our dentists, the gums and teeth are often cured and the patient'ss concerns will begin to clear up.
"Just had my 6 month check up with Karrar and his lovely nurse - advised a filling and did it there and then.No needle, no pain, and plenty of gain!Don't understand the reviews about rude staff on reception - I have only ever found all the personnel at this practice to be friendly, efficient and helpful."- S.M. / Google / Aug 12, 2019
"Sarah was my hygienist today and she was super thorough with each and every details and how to keep my teeth healthier. I learned things from her to take better care of them! She spent well enough time with the process. I wish to get all the future work done with her. I appreciate how zealous she is about her job. Great work Sarah! and thanks a lot.."- A.J. / Google / Jul 19, 2019

"The incredible Dr. Vandana is my dentist. The staff members at Macedonia DentalWorks are wonderful...from the front desk to the D.D.S.! Recently, I have had to visit this office for a multitude of dental issues. Each time I am there, the staff is professional, caring, and friendly. The dental work performed is at a very high and exceptional skill level. They have been more than accommodating, as shown by taking me in for several emergency visits...even coming back from their way home to fix a broken temporary crown or veneer. I have been served and treated by many at this location (hygienists, dentist assistants, etc.), and each has exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend.-Doug Piper of Sagamore Hills"- D.P. / Google / Jun 08, 2019
What to Expect
For the scaling and root planing procedure, our dentists will apply local anesthesia on the needed areas. Sedation may be added to the anesthesia to help the patient keep calm and comfortable during the procedure. To get to all sections of the gum pockets and scrap off the plaque and tartar deposits, our dentists will use a manual scaling tool or an ultrasonic cleaning instrument. As soon as the gum pocket is thoroughly cleaned, our dentists will decrease the areas where plaque and tartar can become trapped by planing (smoothing) the surface of the tooth. After the procedure, the gums will begin to heal and reattach correctly to the tooth root. A few patients may have more than one treatment to get their best results.
After the scaling and root planing treatment is finished, patients sometimes experience some inflammation and/or bleeding of the gums for several days. To keep the mouth clean at home after the scaling and root planing procedure, patients should ask about proper techniques for brushing and flossing their teeth so they can follow the best home care routine. Patients should also be sure to schedule dental exams every year at DentalWorks - Macedonia or as advised by our dentists. Our dentists will often schedule a check up appointment several months after the procedure to assess the patient's condition.
Since scaling and root planing is usually a medically required treatment for gingivitis, standard dental insurance companies will cover part of all of the cost of the procedure. DentalWorks - Macedonia will call the patient's insurance company to determine their precise coverage and out-of-pocket expenses. Patients can also inquire about payment options and financing plans in their consultation with our dentists.
